Learntosurf.com only lists sessions; tours; and programs that have been approved by the National Sporting Organisation – Surfing Australia, and meet all of the latest quality assurance and safety standards as set by the National Governing Body for surfing.

There are over 2,000 products available for you to choose from on learntosurf.com, and all programs listed are delivered by approved Surfing Australia schools only.  These schools are quality assured and certified every 12 months.

All coaches employed at the schools listed on learntosurf.com are qualified surf coaches and hold a surf rescue; senior first aid; and working with children’s check, and are all registered through the Australian Governments’ National Coaching Accreditation Scheme.

Finally, by booking through learntosurf.com, Surfing Australia guarantees the highest level of security on your transactions, as well as a the reassurance of a comprehensive refund and cancellation policy should you change your mind, or your circumstances should change at any stage.

Changes and Cancellations

You can change or cancel a booking up to 7 days in advance without a fee from learntosurf.com (subject to specific conditions explained when you purchased the booking). To change or cancel a booking, firstly you must find your booking voucher that was emailed to you at the time of booking.  The voucher will list the surf centre you made your booking with, and your booking reference ID.

To change or cancel the booking you must contact the surf centre directly either via phone or email and they will make the necessary changes for you.

There are certain items, including special events, clearance offers and development programs that cannot be changed or cancelled, however you would have been notified of this at the time of booking.

How do I request a refund for a booking?

Please submit your refund request on the learntosurf.com Contact Us page. If your request is after the booking date, please provide your booking reference ID and the specific details of your refund request. Or you can call us directly on: 07 5599 3800 Outside Australia: +61 7 5599 3800

How do I access my booking voucher?

Booking Vouchers are sent via Email when your booking is confirmed. In addition, you can request a second voucher from the surf centre you made your booking with. If you are concerned that you may not be able to access the internet at your destination, please be sure to print out a copy of your voucher before you travel.

It has been 24 hours since I booked and I have not received confirmation.

Some confirmations take a little longer than 24 hours, especially over weekends and holidays. Learntosurf.com will do everything possible to secure a confirmation. Your credit card will not be charged until your booking is confirmed.

If you are concerned about whether your booking has been secured, you can call customer support or the surf centre directly who will be able to confirm your booking status.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Surf Schools and SUP Schools will often schedule their programs and sessions around conditions, and can use classrooms and dry-rooms on the rare occasions it is not suitable to operate outdoors.

However, there is little chance of staying dry on a surf or SUP program and you’ll soon find that surfing and Stand Up Paddleboarding are the ideal all-weather activities!

I am not a strong swimmer...can I learn to surf?

You do need to be water confident to learn to surf or SUP, but you do not need to have a strong swimming ability.  It is our expectation that you can:

  • Float unassisted
  • Submerge without fear (open eyes under water and demonstrate breath control – blow bubbles underwater)
  • Free movement – move around confidently in an ocean environment independently and in a group situation
    All Surfing Australia approved sessions, and all beginner programs found on learntosurf.com are conducted in shallow water (waist depth) only.  This allows those with a limited swimming ability to participate in the program or session, enabling you to develop your skills and confidence before moving to the next stage.
How many surf coaches will be with me?

Surfing Australia sets a safe maximum instructor/student ratio of 1:8, however many approved Surfing Australia surf schools and SUP schools choose to reduce these ratios further to ensure maximum enjoyment and success in the water.

In addition to the instructors, there may also be volunteers and trainees helping out both in the water and on the beach and supporting the coaches in delivering your program or session.
